How this tool works
Tile area = width × length ÷ 144 for inches-to-square-feet conversion. Required pieces = target area with waste ÷ tile area.
Example
A 12 × 24 inch tile covers 2 ft², so a 120 ft² surface plus waste can be converted directly into pieces and cartons.
Common questions
Does grout-joint width affect the count?
Slightly. This quick calculator uses nominal tile dimensions and handles uncertainty with the waste allowance.
Should patterned layouts use more waste?
Often yes. Diagonal, herringbone and complex layouts can require more cutting allowance than a simple grid.
