Drywall Calculator
Calculate room wall surface plus ceiling area, then divide by sheet coverage and round up after adding waste.
Ceiling
Surface area640 ft²
Sheet area32 ft²
Sheets needed22
Openings are not deducted because typical waste/cuts often offset some door and window area. For large openings, subtract them manually from the room surface area.
How this tool works
Wall area = 2(length + width) × height. Optional ceiling area = length × width. Sheets = ceiling(area × overage ÷ sheet area).
Example
A 16 × 12 × 8 ft room can be estimated with 4 × 8 sheets and a cutting allowance.
Common questions
Are door and window openings deducted?
Not by default; modest openings often offset cuts and waste. For large openings, adjust the measured area separately.
Does this calculate joint compound and screws?
No. It focuses on sheet count rather than a full drywall material takeoff.
