Ratio Calculator

Reduce two numbers to their simplest whole-number ratio and optionally scale the relationship so the first term equals a chosen target. It is useful for recipes, mixtures, maps, dimensions and everyday proportional reasoning.

How this tool works

For whole numbers, divide both terms by their greatest common divisor. To scale, multiply both terms by target first term ÷ original first term.

Example

The ratio 18:24 simplifies to 3:4. Scaling that relationship so the first term is 12 produces 12:16.

Common questions

Can I enter decimals?

Yes for scaling. The simplest-ratio display converts common decimal values to an integer approximation before reducing.

Is order important?

Yes. A:B and B:A describe reciprocal relationships and are generally not interchangeable.
