Fence Calculator

Create a quick fence material estimate from total length and post spacing while subtracting gate openings.

Fence length excluding gates176 ft
Fence sections22
Estimated posts25
Estimated pickets444

Corner/end-post layout and gate-post requirements depend on the exact fence geometry. Use this as a material estimate, then map actual post locations.

How this tool works

Fence sections = ceiling(fence length excluding gates ÷ maximum post spacing). Pickets are estimated from linear feet × pickets per foot plus waste.

Example

A 180 ft perimeter with one 4 ft gate and 8 ft post spacing produces a first-pass post and panel count.

Common questions

Why can actual post count differ?

Corners, changes in direction, terminal posts and gate framing depend on the exact site layout.

How do I handle prebuilt panels?

Set the maximum spacing to the panel width and use the section count as a starting panel quantity.
