How this tool works
Character count uses JavaScript string length, whitespace-free characters remove spaces and line breaks, and UTF-8 byte count uses the browser TextEncoder where available.
Example
The text “Crunch anything” contains 15 visible characters including the space and 14 characters when whitespace is removed.
Common questions
Why can bytes differ from characters?
Many non-ASCII characters require more than one byte when encoded as UTF-8.
Are line breaks counted as characters?
Yes in the total character count. The no-whitespace count removes line breaks and other whitespace.
