Annualized Return Calculator
Translate an investment gain or loss over any number of days into a comparable annualized rate. This is useful for short-term trades, fixed-income comparisons and performance reviews where holding periods differ.
Annualizing a short holding period can create very large numbers. The result normalizes the observed return; it does not imply that return can be repeated.
How this tool works
Total return = ending value ÷ starting value − 1. Annualized return = (ending value ÷ starting value)^(365 ÷ days) − 1.
Example
Growing $10,000 to $10,500 over 90 days is a 5% total return. Compounding that same rate over equal 90-day periods produces a higher annualized equivalent.
Common questions
Can I annualize a loss?
Yes, as long as the ending value remains positive. The result shows the annualized equivalent of that loss rate.
Does annualizing imply the result will repeat?
No. It is a normalization tool, not a prediction.
